Within the past few years I have had the privilege of working closely with some of Australia's leading Animal Welfare organisations; who are changing the way animals are perceived & treated within our world today. A few years ago I came on as the ambassador for Keep Talking, a then WA based (now VIC based), Animal Protection organisation. I sang at their annual charity gala in Perth & had the honour of listening to Lyn White speak, on behalf of Animals Australia. I also did a promotional shoot with 2 beautiful greyhounds, Maple & Phoebe; & this is where I first came to properly learn about greyhounds & the mistreatment they endure within the Greyhound Racing Industry.
A few months later Dale & I rescued & adopted an 8 week old greyhound, our baby Atlas (now just over 1 year old). Atlas' fate was to be drowned in a bucket of water with his fellow siblings, his mother was a racer & the trainer deemed the puppies as waste product; this is very common within the racing industry. The 'wastage' of greyhound pup's still does not encourage the trainers to have their greyhounds desexed, as it is deemed to 'slow them down'... So the dogs mate, the females fall pregnant, have puppies, the puppies are then never reported so they are unknowingly & sadistically killed, then in most cases the mother is then also deemed to no longer be able to race, so she to is euthanised; some as young as 2 years old. These dogs are just babies & have their whole life ahead of them!

I am a passionate animal advocate, I do not place my being or life higher than that of an animals. I eat a plant-based diet & believe that all animals, no matter what size & species, have the right to live a life that is full of love, & enriching experiences; they deserve their birthright, which is to live a life that is free. This is why I came on board recently as the ambassador for Animal Liberation Queensland's 2014 Greyhound Campaign. Atlas is my heart & soul, so to educate, put my face, & align my message & brand with a campaign I believe so strongly in is truly so incredible; I feel so blessed. Last weekend I had the honour of speaking at ALQ's 2014 'Greyt Night Out' event, held at Lightspace Brisbane. I met so many incredible people from different organisations that are paving the way for the future for animal rights & welfare.
With Hayley, the director of the Greyhound Campaign & a very special friend of mine.
With some incredible people doing amazing things for our greyhound - Jeroen van Kernebeek from GREY2K USA, Lisa White from Friends of the Hound (if you want to rescue a greyhound in QLD, this organisation is so incredible & will be where we adopt Atlas' sister), Nez from Gone Are The Dogs, & Dr Ray & Dr Anthony from Supervets (my vets whom I entrust Atlas with).
All animals have the right to a life that is free, we are so proud at YCL Jewels to be a company standing up for or animals far & wide. Each small step creates change, be a voice & the change you wish to see.
With love & light,
