'Must Read' Book List | Fabienne's Favourites

My Mum always used to say to me that it is so important to read to your children, as it evokes imagination & has been proven to aid academically. Although she tried, I never really got 'reading', you see I was more of a 'practical' child. Lets make mud pies, play Hide & Seek, build dolls houses out of shoe boxes. However as I have gotten older, reading has become a sacred ritual within my life. I do tend to read a niche 'type' of book, usually being on the spiritual or personal growth side of things; with the odd fiction Paulo Coelho thrown in there (cause' how could you not right?!).

When it comes to books, I am someone who loves to be guided to read a book. It might be an internal nudge, someones recommendation, or finding the perfect book randomly in a book store. All of these books presented themselves in my life & I think that is what makes them even more magical.

I've been sharing some books I'm reading on my Instagram & it has sparked my interest among our YCL community, so I thought I share some of my current favourites here & hopefully something may call to you also. Some of these books I have read, & some are next on my list to read.

1. The Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important Hindu texts, as well as serving as a practical guide to living well.

2. Secrets of the Himalayan Mountain Masters & Ladder to Cosmic Conscioness - Yogi Wassan

This book is quite intense, however was a very powerful read. This sacred book includes the teachings of Himalayan Mountain Masters & is very detailed.

3. The Way of Tea - Aaron Fisher

The book I am currently immersing myself in. I am currently reading this book as exploring the magic in the Leaf, & tea ceremony. This is something I will post about at a later date.

4. Autobiography of a Yogi - Paramhasa Yogananda

A book recommended to me by my beautiful friend Ourania, & is the book I plan on reading while I trek through India in a few weeks.

5. Big Magic - Elizabeth Gilbert

Many people have told me I will love this book, & it is currently a best seller. I resonate with & am inspired by Elizabeth, so cannot wait to immerse myself within the pages of this book. From what I know, this book delves into creativity & big ideas!

6. Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts

This book just keeps popping up in my life, whether it be on my Instagram feed or someone talking about it. So when Emily, one of our beautiful #TeamYCL girls, brought it up in conversation one day, knew I had to add it to my collection. And to be honest, I have NO idea what it is about however I feel called to read it.
